Find out what you need to know about Heart Health!
When you see a heart in February- it isn’t always just your standard Valentine’s Day decor. While February is a time we all recognize and celebrate love- it is also a time to bring awareness to your actual heart!
In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson named February “American Heart Month.” Heart disease continues to be the #1 killer of Americans year after year according to AHA’s Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics.
During this month, the American Heart Association focuses on spreading the message and reminding the nation to support the fight against heart disease.
What is important to know is that while heart disease is the greatest health threat in our country, in most cases it is preventable.
What are the ways you can maintain your cardiovascular health? It’s all about knowing how to control your blood pressure, and understanding your cholesterol and blood sugar levels so you can make better decisions that affect your body- and most importantly your heart!
So whether that means watching what you eat, or making sure you get an adequate amount of physical activity every week, you can always work with your health care team to learn what steps you can take to achieve better heart health for you and your loved ones.
